Ecobank, the pan-African bank, has announced that its inaugural Fintech Challenge semifinal event will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday, August 14. This hybrid event will take place at the Ecobank Pan African Centre (EPAC) Lagos.

The 2024 Ecobank Fintech Challenge attracted over 1,550 applications from 70 countries, with only 40 semifinalists making the cut. After a thorough review process, a jury has selected the top finalists who will be revealed at the semifinal event. These finalists will compete in the Grand Finale for a $50,000 prize and a place in the Ecobank Fintech Fellowship program, offering significant support for their innovations.

Ecobank Fintech Fellows benefit from numerous opportunities through collaboration with Ecobank and its partners, including the potential to integrate their solutions within Ecobank's vast 35-country Pan-African network. Selected fintechs may also become Pan-African service partners in the Bank’s ecosystem. Fellows gain exclusive access to Ecobank’s advanced APIs, enabling them to test and develop products for the Pan-African market, and receive priority access to Ecobank’s Venture Capital partners for funding opportunities.

Djiba Diallo, Senior Fintech Advisor at Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), expressed admiration for the quality of this year's applications, recognizing the exceptional African talent and innovation. She congratulated the semifinalists and looked forward to an exciting semifinal event in Lagos, where the top finalists will be announced.

Bolaji Lawal, Managing Director/Regional Executive of Ecobank Nigeria, expressed pride in hosting the semifinals and announced an inspiring and thought-provoking panel discussion with the Nigerian fintech community as a prelude to the hybrid event.

He stated, "Hosting this year’s Fintech Challenge semifinal is a great honor for us. We are excited to welcome leading fintech players from across the continent and are particularly proud of the strong participation from Nigerian fintechs. Their efforts contribute to Africa’s financial integration and economic growth. We encourage Nigerian fintechs to engage in the panel discussions, network, and explore partnership opportunities to support their growth."
