Showdown in Bauchi: Senator Accuses Governor Mohammed of Betraying Residents
Senator Shehu Umar Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has leveled serious accusations against Governor Bala Mohammed, claiming that the governor is depriving the residents of Bauchi State of crucial resources, thereby worsening their economic plight. According to Buba, Governor Mohammed’s administration has not only failed to properly manage the state's resources but has also allegedly engaged in corrupt practices that have left the people impoverished.
During a media interaction at the All Progressives Congress (APC) headquarters in Bauchi, shortly after the party's campaign launch for the upcoming local government elections, Buba voiced his concerns. He pointed out that the hardships faced by Bauchi residents are a direct result of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) policies, dismissing any suggestion that the APC is to blame. Buba highlighted instances where federal assistance, such as 20 trucks of rice and 70 trucks of guinea corn, was provided to the state for distribution among the populace, only for these resources to allegedly disappear or be sold off at high prices.
The senator accused Governor Mohammed of running a "one-man government" characterized by widespread corruption, particularly within state ministries where, according to him, nothing significant is being achieved. He asserted that under the PDP’s leadership, corruption has permeated various aspects of governance, leaving the people of Bauchi to suffer the consequences.
Buba’s criticism extended to the administration's lack of recognition and appreciation for the Federal Government’s efforts to support the state. He cited examples of recent interventions, including the provision of fertilizers, which were meant to be distributed freely but were instead sold at inflated prices, exacerbating the financial struggles of ordinary citizens.
Despite the challenges, Senator Buba expressed strong optimism about the APC's chances in the upcoming local government elections, as well as the 2027 general elections. He argued that the PDP's maladministration has disillusioned the electorate, making them more inclined to support the APC. He called on the people of Bauchi State to come out in large numbers on August 17 to vote for the APC, emphasizing that the party is fully prepared to win.
Additionally, the acting chairman of the APC in Bauchi State, Mohammed Hassan Tilde, echoed Buba's sentiments, warning that the PDP may attempt to engage in electoral fraud, as allegedly occurred in the 2019 elections. Tilde assured that the APC is vigilant and ready to protect its votes, having fielded candidates for all 20 chairmanship positions and 323 councilorship seats in the upcoming local government elections. He expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in securing all available seats, positioning the party as the leading force in Bauchi State.
