Military killed 108 terrorists, rescues 214 hostages – DHQ
The Nigerian military announced that within one week, it eliminated 108 terrorists and rescued 214 kidnapped hostages across the country. This was revealed by Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, in a statement made in Abuja on Friday.
Buba reported that troops also arrested 204 suspected terrorists and other criminals, seizing 66 various weapons and 4,087 rounds of ammunition. Among the recovered items were a Dushka machine gun, an RPG launcher, and multiple AK47 rifles, alongside other weapons and military equipment, including four MRAPs and two GTs.
In the North East, under Operation Hadin Kai, 47 terrorists were neutralized, 18 suspects were arrested, and 130 hostages were rescued. Additionally, 622 terrorists, including 90 adult males, 182 adult females, and 350 children, surrendered to the troops during the week. The Air Component of the operation also conducted a successful airstrike on a newly discovered Boko Haram/ISWAP hideout and IED factory in the Mandara Mountains, eliminating several terrorists and destroying their facilities.
In the North Central region, troops from Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralized 13 insurgents, apprehended 57 extremists, and rescued 36 hostages. In the North West, Operation Hadarin Daji resulted in the neutralization of 15 terrorists, the arrest of 22, and the rescue of 27 hostages across several states.
The military also conducted successful air raids in Katsina State, targeting terrorist hideouts, resulting in the elimination of several terrorists and the destruction of their logistics. Under Operation Whirl Punch in the North West, troops neutralized eight terrorists, arrested 22 suspects, and rescued 12 hostages. An airstrike in Kaduna State also destroyed the camp of a terrorist leader.
In the South-South region, troops of Operation Delta Safe recovered over a million liters of stolen crude oil and other illegally refined products. They also destroyed several illegal refining sites and seized numerous vehicles, motorcycles, and weapons. Troops rescued five hostages and arrested 32 suspects involved in oil theft and other criminal activities.
In the South East, under Operation UDO KA, five terrorists were neutralized, 12 extremists were arrested, and four hostages were rescued. All recovered items, suspects, and rescued individuals were handed over to the relevant authorities for further action.
