Carvalho joins Brentford from Liverpool

Fabio Carvalho has completed a transfer to Brentford in a deal valued at an initial £22.5 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.

According to a report from Sky Sports on Monday, Liverpool will receive a 17.5% sell-on clause as part of the agreement for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder.

Carvalho, who had also drawn interest from Southampton and Leicester, has signed a five-year contract with Brentford, which includes an option for an additional year.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank praised Carvalho on the club’s official website, stating, “Fabio is a player with many qualities. He can play in any of the front three or four positions in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 formation. His best role is likely as a No. 10 or cutting in from the left.

"Offensively, he has excellent abilities on the ball: he can dribble past opponents, deliver key passes, create chances, and finish them. He’s a unique player in our squad, so he’ll bring something extra to the team."

Carvalho joined Liverpool in 2022 for £5 million after emerging as one of Fulham’s most promising youth talents. He scored 12 goals in 44 appearances for Fulham, mainly during their promotion campaign in the Championship.

As part of that transfer, Fulham secured a 20% sell-on clause, which will be applicable to the profit made from Carvalho’s move to Brentford.

During his time with Liverpool, Carvalho made 21 appearances and scored three goals. He impressed during a loan spell at Hull in the latter half of last season, netting nine goals in 20 Championship matches, following an earlier stint at RB Leipzig.
