Senate to grill service chiefs Wednesday, summons economic team

The Senate has announced its intention to question the Service Chiefs regarding the country's security challenges on Wednesday and Thursday. Senator Tokunbo Abiru revealed this postponement during a press briefing on Tuesday, also informing about the rescheduling of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions' meeting with CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso to Friday.

Last week, the Senate passed a resolution summoning the Service Chiefs to provide explanations on the escalating security situation, while concurrently, the Committee on Banking summoned the CBN Governor to discuss the nation's economy and currency stability. However, due to ongoing engagements with the House of Representatives, the CBN Governor's meeting was postponed.

Senator Abiru clarified, citing the Senate's prioritization of engaging with the Service Chiefs on Wednesday and Thursday, leading to the rescheduled meeting with the CBN Governor on Friday morning. He assured that communication regarding the change would be relayed to the relevant authorities.

Before these announcements, the Senate held closed-door sessions, followed by discussions on Senator Ahmad Lawan's motion honoring the late Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim. The Senate observed a minute of silence in his memory and appointed a delegation, headed by Senator Adamu Aliero, for a condolence visit to the Governor of Yobe State and the family of the deceased.
