Woman Faces Court for Alleged Death Threat Against Businessman: Shocking Legal Showdown Unfolds!

On Friday, a woman, Folashade Olalude, was brought before the Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate Court, facing charges of alleged cyberbullying and threats to kill a businessman. The charges, including conspiracy, intent to steal, cyberbullying, and threat to kill, were presented by the police before Chief Magistrate Olwatosin Fowowe-Erusiafe.

The prosecutor, Mr. Henry Obiazi, informed the court that the defendant and accomplices, still at large, conspired between 2015 and 2022 to commit the alleged offenses. The prosecution further explained that Olalude, with the intent to steal, demanded over N5 million on different occasions from Alhaji Lawal Abdullateef. She threatened to harm him or tarnish his name on the internet as a fraudster unless her demands were met. Additionally, in October 2023, the defendant reportedly sent a threatening letter to Abdullateef, expressing an intent to kill him.

The charges brought against Olalude contravene Sections 411, 301, and 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. Despite her plea of not guilty, the prosecutor urged the court to remand her in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services pending the resolution of the charges.

Olalude's lawyer, I. S. Ijenkeri, requested bail for the defendant, arguing that the charges were bailable. The Magistrate, Olwatosin Fowowe-Ersiafe, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum. However, the magistrate ordered Olalude to be remanded at the Kirikiri female section of the NCS facility until she meets the bail conditions.

The court adjourned the matter until March 14, 2024, for trial.
