PDP rakes in N175m as Shaibu, others pick nomination forms

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has generated N175 million from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms to five candidates vying for the Edo State governorship position. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the state governorship election for September 21, 2024. The PDP has outlined a timetable, designating February 22, 2024, for the congress where the party's gubernatorial candidate will be chosen.

Commencing on Wednesday in Abuja, the PDP initiated the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms to party members aspiring to contest the Edo governorship. The expression of interest form costs N5 million, and the nomination form is priced at N30 million, resulting in a total fee of N35 million for each aspirant. With five aspirants having acquired the forms, the PDP has amassed N175 million.

The first PDP aspirant from Edo to obtain the forms was Blessing, the daughter of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, who visited the party headquarters, Wadata House, Abuja, on Wednesday. Subsequently, other aspirants, including Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, Asue Ighodalo, Felix Akhabue, and Anslem Ojezua, secured the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday.
