Mohbad: I’m not satisfied with police investigation – Father

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, also known as Ilerioluwa Aloba, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the ongoing police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of his son. Mohbad, a former protege of Naira Marley, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 28 in Lagos State.

The Lagos State Police Command initiated a special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to probe the mysterious death of Mohbad. Former Lagos Police Commissioner Idowu Owohunwa mentioned the involvement of INTERPOL to identify and bring to justice anyone linked to the singer's death.

The subsequent arrest of Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu (Sam Larry), among others, followed Mohbad's death. The singer's body was exhumed for autopsy on September 21, 2023, with the police awaiting the results.

Expressing his concerns on Trust TV, Joseph Aloba stated that his expectations were not met during the police investigation. He hoped that after bringing Mohbad's body to the police station, they would accompany him to search Mohbad's residence. Aloba lamented the lack of access to the autopsy report and emphasized that the investigation had not satisfied him.

Aloba urged the police to question individuals associated with Mohbad, suggesting that valuable information could be obtained by examining their phones. He emphasized the need for justice and appealed to the government to intensify efforts to ensure a fair resolution.

Despite rumors suggesting the readiness of the autopsy report in November 2023, the Lagos State Police Command, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that they had not officially received the report. Aloba had previously asserted his authority over his son's remains, stating that no one should proceed with burial arrangements without his authorization.

In December 2023, Hundeyin reiterated that the police were still waiting for the official autopsy report from the pathologists. He emphasized the necessity of having the factual report to conclude the investigation, highlighting the command's reliance on concrete information rather than speculative assumptions.
