JUST IN: I’ll support Tinubu without apologies – PDP chieftain, Bwala
On Wednesday, Daniel Bwala, a prominent member of the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed his unwavering commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu's administration, even if it requires him to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). After a closed-door meeting with the President at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, Bwala informed State House correspondents about his commitment.
He stated, "I told him today, I am committing to play my part to support your administration, and I have no apologies to anybody." When asked about the possibility of defecting to the APC, he affirmed, "APC is a party. President Bola Tinubu is my motivation; if supporting him will take me to APC, so be it."
Earlier, on January 2, 2024, Bwala, who had been a vocal critic of the APC and the Tinubu administration, advocated for opposition parties to form a strong coalition to challenge the governing party in the 2027 general elections. He asserted that without such a coalition, President Tinubu would likely spend eight years in office.
Bwala commended President Tinubu's decision to suspend the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, praising the president's commitment to the rule of law. Referring to the recent announcement of a 60% reduction in travel entourages for the Presidency and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Bwala acknowledged the government's efforts to address concerns about bloated expenses.
He highlighted the President's assurance that more cost-cutting measures are in progress, emphasizing that his support for the administration is not based on personal grudges but on policy issues. Bwala conveyed his appreciation for the decisions made by President Tinubu, emphasizing his commitment to support the administration.
