"JAMB Breaks Barriers: Free Registration Greenlit for Individuals with Disabilities!"

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced that Persons Living With Disability (PLWD) intending to take the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can register without any charges. The Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this while introducing the registration process for interested candidates nationwide.

Oloyede stated that the registration for the 2024 matriculation examination will commence today (Monday) and emphasized that JAMB will provide free application documents to all categories of Persons Living With Disability as a supportive measure.

"To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE," he explained.

In addition to free registration, Oloyede highlighted measures taken to ensure a smooth process for all candidates. Notably, audio books will be supplied to blind candidates, representing a digital adaptation of traditional reading materials. These audio books will be available in popular formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA, compatible with devices capable of streaming audio records.

The registrar mentioned that the idea of providing audiobooks originated from the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria. Besides blind candidates, other groups eligible for free registration include individuals with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Oloyede specified, "The following categories of candidates will now be listed under the disability group: Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)."
