Doyin Okupe Quits Labour Party

He said his alignment with right-wing and liberal democratic principles clashed with Labour’s left-of-center ideology.

Doyin Okupe, a former leader of the Labour Party's Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 election, has decided to step down from his position within the party, citing fundamental ideological disparities. In a concise resignation letter, Okupe clarified that his alignment with right-wing and liberal democratic principles stood in stark contrast to the left-of-center ideology of the Labour Party, rendering his continued membership untenable.

In the letter, Okupe stated, "I hereby submit my letter of resignation from the Labour Party, effective from today (Monday)." He recalled the abrupt departure from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) by himself, the party's flagbearer Mr. Peter Obi, and others, necessitating the search for a Special Purpose Vehicle to contest the 2023 Presidential Elections. Acknowledging the Labour Party, its leadership, and executive members for providing them with a valuable platform for the election without imposing any burdens, Okupe expressed deep gratitude for the support extended.
