"Commissioner Sounds Alarm: Lagos Budget Falls Short of Residents' Needs!"

The Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, has highlighted the insufficiency of the state budget in meeting the developmental aspirations of Lagosians. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Retreat for Directors of Finance and Accounts in Epe over the weekend, Oluyomi emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among financial and accounts officers. He stressed the importance of innovative and creative measures to enhance the state's revenue base and achieve the desired level of development.

According to the commissioner, the current pace of development across various sectors in Lagos requires a budget exceeding N7 trillion annually. He urged finance and account officers to devise creative means to increase government revenue, recognizing the crucial role they play in the process.

In his welcome address to participants, Dr. Abiodun Muritala, the Permanent Secretary/Accountant-General of the state, emphasized the necessity for in-depth and unprecedented solutions to confront the emerging challenges of today's uncertain environment. He viewed the retreat as an opportunity to explore innovative and creative avenues that would propel the state to new heights amidst the multifaceted challenges and disruptions facing the global economy.
