NSCDC official killed as terrorists bomb transmission towers

A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer lost his life due to the bombing of three power transmission towers by terrorists along the Maiduguri-Damaturu route, as reported by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Friday. The General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the incident in Abuja, stating that the bomb blast, occurring on December 28, 2023, marked a tragic recurrence following a similar event the previous week.

Expressing the sorrowful impact of the incident, Mbah conveyed TCN's confirmation of the destruction of three towers and the unfortunate loss of the NSCDC officer's life. The TCN extended condolences to the family of the deceased and the NSCDC, acknowledging the profound sadness surrounding the event.

Contrastingly, counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama provided additional details, noting that the security operative, identified as Nurudeen, met his demise after unintentionally triggering explosives while inspecting the vandalized electricity tower. Makama, sharing a photo of Nurudeen at the scene, emphasized the tragic nature of the incident and speculated on the triggering mechanism connected to the minor line across the path, leading to the NSCDC officer's untimely death.
