Igbo behind major investments in Nigeria, says Speaker

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has called upon Igbo leaders to engage with the Federal Government to address their legitimate concerns. During the launch of the Peace in the South East Project, initiated by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Abbas expressed concern over the economic setbacks caused by agitations in the South-East despite its economic strength.

Speaking at the event in Bende, Abia State, Abbas emphasized that peace in the South-East is crucial for the overall peace and progress of Nigeria. He acknowledged the project's origin in Deputy Speaker Kalu's deep affection for the region and his worry about rising insecurity, which has cast a shadow over the area.

In a statement by his Special Adviser, Musa Krishi, Abbas lamented the ongoing insecurity in the region, hampering daily life and socio-economic activities. He described the Peace in the South East Project as a historic and patriotic initiative, highlighting the region's past economic prowess between 1956 and 1965.

Abbas praised the entrepreneurial, resourceful, and peace-loving character of the Igbo people, noting their significant contributions to Nigeria's economy, trade, and commerce. Despite their achievements, he acknowledged the challenges in the South-East, including separatist agitations and terrorism, emphasizing the colossal impact on lives and property.

To effectively address these challenges, the Speaker stressed the importance of understanding their root causes and urged stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Federal Government.
